Children's Services
ABLE After-School Program
The Alternative Behavioral Learning Environment (ABLE) program provides an enriched and specialized afterschool program for children with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges who are ages 3 to 21.
When school is out, most students simply go home. At the ARC, children and young adults with disabilities have the opportunity to experience meaningful and fun activities with similar students in a clean, safe, and well-staffed environment. All after-school services are developed, implemented, and evaluated by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
ARC after-school services include :
• Social skills training
• Homework support
• Direct instruction targeting academic skills (in areas of difficulty or when needing additional practice)
• Domestic and self-care skills training
• Communication skills development through fun activities and play
After-school staff are trained and supervised both in structured, pull-out sessions and incidentally in real time working with students. Staff record occurrences of targeted problem behaviors and acquisition of desirable skills on an ongoing basis. The ARC after-school program is offered Monday through Friday from 2:00pm to 6:00pm on regular school days, as well as school holidays and extended school breaks.
Camp ABLE Summer Camp - Supported by Newman's Own Foundation
Camp ABLE is a specialized summer camp program for children with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges ages 3 to 22.
When school lets out in June, most children are on their own for the quality of their summer fun. For children with special needs, the ARC’s Able Summer Camp Program offers a summer of tremendous fun and then some! Check out these exciting outdoor options:
- Sailing lessons
- Boat rides
- Picnics
- Hiking
- Horseback riding
- Canoeing
- Swimming
Plus, Able Summer Camp students learn about civic responsibility and care of our planet through beach and park stewardship outings. These outings not only encourage active care of the natural world but are educational. The children hear from experts how trash and pollution affect wildlife, plant life--our planet.
And when it rains? There are movie outings, bowling, computer-based activities, and a range of indoor, individual and group play opportunities.
The Camp ABLE Summer Program runs through the entire summer, Monday through Friday. Just as for the ARC’s After School Program, this highly structured and behavior-based program is overseen and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
Personal Supports & Companion Services
The ARC of the Treasure Coast is also there for the families of individuals with disabilities. To enable families to attend to other responsibilities, the ARC can provide individual ono-to-one or small one-to-three group ratio settings for individuals to receive social and community interaction activities. Personal supports and companion services are geared specifically to the individual’s personal needs and desires both in the community and home setting.
Rehabilitation Therapy Services
The ARC of the Treasure Coast provides in depth counseling to help parents and families advance development of their special needs’ child. Referrals and recommendations for physical, occupational and speech/language therapy services are available as needed.

Residential Services
Personal choice is respected in the selection of a consumer’s home. These homes are modified as needed to accommodate special needs and meet the most rigid requirements for safety while maintaining an environment that is comfortable, well designed and practical. We believe that helping people with disabilities to lead more fulfilling lives by achieving higher levels of independence and responsibility is an attainable goal. That’s why the children and adults who live in these residences receive the benefits of individualized support plans that build on strengths and are designed to assist them to improve their daily living skills.

Adult Training Program
The ARC of Martin County believes in making the best use of community resources. All of its efforts are directed at participation in an integrated community. Our Adult Day Program provides adults with disabilities the opportunity to develop new skills and enhance independence through training in communication, money management, community inclusion, and social skills. It also includes training in the use of special adaptive equipment and activities such as, adaptive swimming, bowling, musical arts and dance and therapeutic horseback riding.
Supported Living
We have learned that finding out how a person wishes to live and providing them with the support and training to maintain that lifestyle is the key to success in this program. The ARC offers supports, training, and activities that assist individuals to live in their own home or apartment throughout the Treasure Coast. Our staff provides participants with the supports necessary for them to maintain themselves, assess “at risk” situations and help them develop safety nets by introducing them to people and resources within their community and neighborhood. Staffing can range from 24-hour coverage to “Drop-In” assistance.
Community Inclusion Services
The Community Inclusion Services Program allows mature teens and adults with developmental disabilities a chance to gain independence within their community. This program offers a diverse choice of activities. Skills taught during these outings may include:

The ARC supplies or arranges appropriate transportation for individuals who require or request special transportation accommodations through the use of low floor minivans, commuter passenger vans, and specially adapted buses.
